Nina Shah
Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner
My name is Nina Shah, Ayurvedic Practitioner at Omkar Ayurveda in San Diego. Ayurveda has been a part of my life since childhood due to the fact that my grandfather was a Vaidya (Ayurvedic physician) in my birthplace of East Africa. Though he passed away when I was 5 years old, my family always embraced the Ayurvedic way of living and us grandkids had constant reminders about “what’s good for you” and “what’s not” (Pathya and Apathya).
After pursuing a short career in software development as an adult, I felt compelled to pursue a career in health and nutrition for the benefit of my family. With the little homegrown knowledge already possessed, I naturally gravitated towards a deeper and more formal study of Ayurveda.
After looking at all possible Ayurveda Schools in the U.S. I finally enrolled and successfully completed a three year program of Classical Ayurveda at Shubham School of Ayurveda in Fremont, CA. This is a NAMA(National Ayurveda Medical Association board of U.S) certified Ayurvedic Practitioner program. Currently, I am working towards Doctor level certification, a newly developed standard by NAMA. This syllabus is based on BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medical Science) program from India.
Apart from the brilliance of Ayurveda as a Medical science, it has given me practical yet amazingly effective diet and lifestyle guidelines. These guidelines are aimed towards maintaining complete harmony with nature around us, hence keeping our balance emotionally, physically, and psychologically. It is seemingly a natural panacea to our current fast paced culture of eating on the go, taking shortcuts with meals prepared in 15mins, aggressive work schedules and workout routines. Ayurveda provides tools for us to live a healthy, mindful life. For me, studying, practicing, and teaching Ayurveda is a humbling experience because I see the true greatness in its simplicity.
Namaste,
Nina Shah
